Real Madrid star talks up Paul Pogba transfer as Man Utd face fight to keep midfielder

Real Madrid defender Raphael Varane believes Paul Pogba would be a fantastic addition for the club.

Real boss Zinedine Zidane remains interested in Pogba, who has made no secret of his desire to leave Manchester United this summer.

United are yet to receive any official bids for the French midfielder and will not entertain any bids if they are made after the Premier League transfer deadline on August 8.

That leaves Real just a week to try and reach an agreement with United, who are growing increasingly confident of keeping Pogba at Old Trafford.

Real have endured a nightmare pre-season and were beaten again by Tottenham in Munich on Tuesday.

And while Varane would welcome the arrival of his international teammate, he insists Zidane has a strong squad at his disposal.

"I think we have a team. Pogba is a good player, I know him very well. For any team he would be fantastic," Varane said.

"I trust my team-mates. If new players come, we'll see. But I trust my team-mates."

On Real's poor run of form, Varane added: "It is true that on an individual level we are making mistakes. They're not tactical, they're technical errors.

"This will be corrected. I think we're going to improve little by little. We are focused on our work.

"We all know that when the competition starts, Madrid is something else. This is not an excuse. We are focused on friendly matches.

"You have to be calm, this season didn't start. When it starts, we'll be ready."
