Real Madrid's Luka Modric defends Liverpool striker Mohamed Salah as Dejan Lovren seeks revenge

Real Madrid star Luka Modric has defended Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah after Dejan Lovren seeks playful revenge against his team-mate.

The Reds are currently in France finalising preparations for Sunday's Community Shield clash against Manchester City.

Lovren, who is reunited with pal Salah who return to the squad on Monday, posted a photo from the Evian training playing a game of table tennis against the Egyptian international.

The Croatian defender wrote: "Ok I lost 1-0 for him. Today is the day of revenge!"

Modric comically responded to the Instagram post, the Ballon d'Or winner replied: "You can’t win against anyone! Stop wasting your time".

The 30-year-old centre-half comically responded: "Heyyy, Salah plays the same as you, only (more) defensive".

Salah added a comment which read: "7/0". As Gini Wijnaldum cheekily wrote: "Never give up!"

Copa America winning duo Alisson and Roberto Firmino joined Salah as they returned to first team training this week.

The trio could feature on Wednesday as Liverpool take on Lyon in Geneva.
