Real Madrid's atrocious record without Sergio Ramos after Liverpool injury blow confirmed

Sergio Ramos has dealt Real Madrid a major blow after suffering injury on international duty with Spain.

The La Liga giants confirmed on Thursday their captain had been "diagnosed with a muscle injury" while journalists on the continent posted that the centre-back would be out for "around a month", meaning he will miss both Liverpool matches in the Champions League quarter-final.

His absence will be a huge blow for manager Zinedine Zidane who is already braced for Eden Hazard and Dani Carvajal to miss the clash while also sweating on the fitness of Toni Kroos and Federico Valverde.

And now, Madrid's record in the European Cup without Ramos has been uncovered by Colin Millar on Twitter.

The Bernabeu club have lost seven of their last 10 matches in the Champions League without Ramos among the squad.

Their atrocious record includes a 1-0 loss at CSKA Moscow in the 2017/18 group stages with a 3-0 return defeat from the Russian side.

Ajax also beat Madrid 4-1 away from home in the last-16 during the 2018/19 competition while the Spanish side were without Ramos and PSG recorded a 3-0 victory in the group stages during the 2019/20 tournament.

One of their three victories came against Club Brugge last season but they were beaten by Man City 2-1 in the last-16 without the defender.

Madrid were also beaten 3-2 at home by Shakhtar Donetsk this season in the group stages without Ramos and succumbed to a 2-0 defeat away in Ukraine to the same side.

They did, however, manage to beat Inter Milan 2-0 away from home and recorded a 1-0 victory away at Atalanta in the last-16 to help them set up the quarter-final tie with Liverpool next week.
