Real Madrid receive huge Marcelo boost ahead of Chelsea Champions League clash

Real Madrid have received a huge boost ahead of their Champions League clash with Chelsea on Wednesday evening.

The two sides are drawing 1-1 heading into the second leg at Stamford Bridge after Karim Benzema scored an equaliser following Christian Pulisic's opener and all-important away goal.

But while Eden Hazard has returned to full fitness, starting for Real Madrid on Saturday as they defeated Osasuna, Los Blancos have not been helped by injuries ahead of the semi-final second leg.

That has been the story of Real Madrid's season, but it's certainly not all bad news for Zinedine Zidane, despite losing Dani Carvajal and Lucas Vazquez for the rest of the season and Raphael Varane for the next 10 days or so.

Sergio Ramos and Ferland Mendy have both returned to training ahead of the game, and what's more, Marcelo now looks set to play despite doubts over his availability.

As a dual passport holder across Brazil and Spain, Marcelo was eligible to be called to serve on an electoral board on Tuesday and he was, listed as a substitute.

This morning, he turned up at his election centre in Madrid to register his presence, as he is legally obliged to, and according to RadioMarca, it looked as if he would go from being a substitute to active duty when one of the other members serving did not turn up.

But they have since turned up for duty and Marcelo was cleared to leave.

Marcelo has been cleared to fly with the rest of the Real Madrid squad to London today and was pictured boarding the flight despite reports he would have to remain local until 10pm this evening.

With Mendy not fully fit having been injured for the last five games, Marcelo's presence could be vital for Los Blancos, and it seems they will now have the experienced Brazilian.
