Real Madrid 'ready to step up' Kylian Mbappe transfer push amid Liverpool interest

Real Madrid are reportedly preparing a massive offer to try to bring PSG star Kylian Mbappe to the Bernabeu when the transfer window eventually re-opens.

The French forward has become one of the most highly sought-after players in the world since he broke onto the scene at Monaco in the 2016-2017 season, and he has been in sensational form again for PSG during the current campaign, scoring 18 goals and creating five assists in Ligue 1.

Madrid are known to have been watching Mbappe in admiration from afar for some time, and manager Zinedine Zidane is a particularly big fan.

According to Spanish outlet Marca, the La Liga club will make Mbappe their top priority when football resumes again after the coronavirus crisis.

His contract expires in June 2022, and PSG could be tempted to sell the player before then if they receive a suitable offer.

Ahead of Madrid's game against PSG in the Champions League earlier this season Zidane admitted he was "in love" with Mbappe.

"I've known him for a long time," he said. "I've been in love with him for a long time, but as a person first. He came here for a trial a long time ago."

Liverpool are another team who have been linked with Mbappe, are were thought to be keen on bringing in a big name to help launch their lucrative kit deal with Nike.

But it is not clear whether the Reds have the financial ability to compete with Madrid, who could be set to spend close to £200m on Mbappe.

Despite the World Cup winner's largely successful season at PSG, it has not been all plain sailing.

He twice reacted furiously to being substituted by manager Thomas Tuchel, both in games against Montpellier, and there were rumours that Mbappe's relationship with his coach were deteriorating.
