Real Madrid put Keylor Navas up for sale as Thibaut Courtois becomes undisputed No.1 goalkeeper

Real Madrid have told Keylor Navas he can leave the club this summer, with Thibaut Courtois to be the club’s first-choice goalkeeper next season.

Coach Zinedine Zidane turned down the opportunity to sign a goalkeeper in his first spell as Los Blancos boss and Navas starred as the team won three consecutive Champions Leagues in that time.

But after the Frenchman departed last May, Madrid brought in Courtois from Chelsea in a €35 million deal and the Belgian’s arrival has created a debate over the position which has gone on all season.

Julen Lopetegui started off by picking Navas, but then made Courtois his first choice and his replacement, Santiago Solari, did the same.

And on his return to the club in March, Zidane also opted for Navas initially and Courtois then had a spell out through injury.

“There won’t be a debate about the goalkeepers next year,” Zidane said in April. “It will be very clear.”

That seemed to suggest that one of the two senior shot-stoppers would leave the club and it is the Costa Rican who will make way after five seasons at the Santiago Bernabeu.

The 32-year-old has one more year on his contract and could be available for around €12m (£10m) in the summer.
