Real Madrid player ratings vs Liverpool: Thiabaut Courtois masterclass wins Champions League final

Thibaut Courtois put in a masterclass in goal as Real Madrid beat Liverpool in the Champions League final.

Here’s how James Robson rated those on show...

Thibaut Courtois 9

One of the all-time great Champions League Final performances. Two stunning saves early on denied Salah and Mane when Liverpool were on top. Then prevented Jota and Salah from equalising late on.

Dani Carvajal 9

He was absolutely everywhere. So much energy, so strong in the tackle and so aggressive with his forward runs.

Eder Militao 8

Shut down spaces well and also tried to drive Real up the pitch with his runs from the back. One interception in the second half denied an almost certain goal.

David Alaba 7

So often in the right position. A rocky start as Liverpool flew out of the traps, but took control after that.

Ferland Mendy 7

Given a hard time by Alexander-Arnold early on. Did well just to stay with him and grew in influence.

Casemiro 8

Passing let him down in the first half, but he was in the right place at the time on so many occasions to snuff out danger.

Luka Modric 8

Pure class. He is ageless and his control of the ball in a tight area in his own half proved the platform for Vinicius’ goal.

Toni Kroos 8

Use of the ball was not what we have come to expect, but his positioning was important to give Real reprieve in moments of pressure.

Federico Valverde 9

Never stopped working his flank, getting back to cover and then bursting forward to spring attacks. His cross provided Vinicius’ winner.

Vinicius Junior 8

The youngest player to score in a Champions League Final since Lionel Messi. He was the big threat to Liverpool and it was clear how wary they were of his pace, which he used to burst away and score the winner.

Karim Benzema 8

A performance of quiet efficiency. He has been the architect of this Champions League triumph, but on this occasion, he unselfishly dropped deep to knit play.

  • Eduardo Camavinga (Valverde, 85)
  • Dani Ceballos (Modric, 90)
  • Rodrygo (Vinicius, 90+3)
