Real Madrid begin their search for Julen Lopetegui’s successor today, after sacking their head coach on Monday evening.
The 13-time European Cup winners made the announcement at 8pm GMT after Lopetegui had overseen the club’s worst start to a season since 2009.
The 5-1 hammering at Barcelona in the Clasico was the final nail in the coffin, but in truth the writing had been on the wall for Lopetegui for some time.
Castilla coach Santiago Solari has been put in temporary charge.
With former Chelsea boss Antonio Conte seemingly out of the running, Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino is once again being strong linked with the vacancy at Santiago Bernabeu.

Real Madrid's statement after sacking Lopetegui
"The Board of Directors understands that there is a great disproportion between the quality of the staff of Real Madrid, which has eight players nominated for the next Ballon d’Or, something unprecedented in the history of the club, and the results obtained to date.
"The club thanks Julen Lopetegui and his entire technical team for their effort and work and wishes them the best in their professional career.
"He will be provisionally replaced by Santiago Solari, who will lead the first team starting tomorrow, Tuesday."
