Real Madrid manager Zinedine Zidane addresses Paul Pogba transfer speculation

Zinedine Zidane has refused to be drawn on speculation linking Paul Pogba with a move to Real Madrid.

Pogba's agent, Mino Raiola, is said to be plotting a summer move to the Santiago Bernabeu for the midfielder three years after he became United's record singing in an £89 million deal from Juventus.

Pogba said in March that playing for Madrid would be a 'dream', with Zidane returning the compliment by saying: “I like Pogba a lot. That is not something new. I know him personally, he’s different and he gives you something different that very few players can offer.”

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has repeatedly stated his desire to re-build United's first-team squad with Pogba as its focal point, but the 26-year-old's future remains uncertain.

Zidane was asked about Madrid's interest ahead of their game against Villarreal on Sunday, and the Frenchman was coy in his response.

"Pogba is a good player, a player I know, but that's it," he said.

Sheffield United boss Chris Wilder reveals details of Dean Henderson discussions with Ed Woodward

"I'm not going to get into these things, this nonsense.

"If you ask me about Pogba, I'll tell you he's a Manchester United player. He's very good but he's a Manchester United player.

"When the season is over, we'll see what transfers there will be."

When pressed about the speed at which Madrid will conduct their summer transfer business, Zidane suggested Madrid will be willing to wait to get the right players.

"I do not know if it will be possible," he said. "You know how things are. We have to take one step at a time. Things are done quietly.

"Players will play games with their national team and then we will have time to prepare for the season until August 31 and anything can happen. We will see."
