Real Madrid 'make Christian Eriksen transfer decision' that could boost Manchester United and more rumours

Manchester United could be given a clear path to sign Christian Eriksen next summer because Real Madrid 'don't believe' in signing free agents.

That is according to The Mirror, who say Madrid will not pursue the signing of Eriksen when his contract expires at Tottenham, even though he would be available for free.

United explored the chance to sign the Spurs playmaker over the summer, but decided Eriksen had his heart set on Real Madrid so did not follow up their initial interest.

Now, though, the report says Real Madrid's aversion to signing free agents will see them steer clear of Eriksen this summer. The club apparently prefer signing high-profile players and rarely dip into the free agent market because they 'do not believe in the system.'

That could clear the way for United to return for Eriksen, who will be available to speak to in the new year as he is in the final year of his contract at Spurs. However, it could also see Madrid pursue Paul Pogba, who has made no secret of his desire to join Madrid.

Meanwhile, United want Atletico Madrid goalkeeper Jan Oblak to replace David de Gea if the current United No.1 doesn’t agree a new contract and leaves the club in the summer.

MEN Sport previously understood that United expected De Gea to sign a new deal, but negotiations have stalled and the Spaniard’s current contract expires in June 2020.

Spanish media outlet Diaro AS, however, have claimed that United have ‘pinpointed’ Oblak - who is reportedly open to the idea of leaving Atletico, despite recently signing a new deal until 2023 - as De Gea’s replacement.
