Real Madrid left 'very angry' with Man Utd's Pau Torres transfer approach

Real Madrid president Florentino Perez is reportedly 'very angry' with Manchester United after they entered the race for Pau Torres.

The Villarreal defender is in high demand this summer and is understood to be on Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s radar this summer.

United are is keen to add defensive reinforcements and look likely to recruit a partner for club captain Harry Maguire.

It has been suggested that Solskjaer will prioritise a move for a left-footed defender, meaning the Spaniard fits the bill perfectly.

Torres has had a fine season under Unai Emery, establishing himself as a potential starter for Spain ahead of the delayed European Championship later this year.

The Manchester Evening News report that the player himself is keen on a move to Old Trafford, although there is reported interest from local rivals Manchester City.

Real had previously believed they were in pole position for Torres’ signature, after earmarking him as the heir apparent to Sergio Ramos.

However, according to El Desmarque, Perez now believes Manchester United have stolen the defender from under their noses.

The interest from Premier League clubs will likely price Los Blancos out of the race for Torres, with the report adding his value is ‘rising like foam with each passing day'.

There is a belief that the 24-year-old has a release clause in the region of €60million after he penned a contract extension until 2024 two years ago.

But the La Liga giants could be willing to accept a cash-plus-player offer in order to seal a move in the current financial climate.

Former Real Madrid president Ramon Calderon has recently hinted that their focus is set to be on regenerating the Santiago Bernabeu, likely meaning they are unable to compete at the top of the transfer market.

"They are talking about Mbappe, Haaland… too many players,” he told talkSPORT.

“We are not in the best form economically-speaking because we are refurbishing our stadium spending a lot of money.

"It will be difficult to spend money in the summer. We always try to sign good players, we’ve been doing that for years."
