Real Madrid 'join Kai Havertz transfer race' but Chelsea still 'in pole position'

Real Madrid are reportedly set to target Kai Havertz - but Chelsea are still believed to lead the race with the midfielder keen on a move to the Premier League.

Chelsea are expected to make a £75million bid for the Bayer Leverkusen star, who is also thought to be on the radar of Manchester United and Liverpool as well as German giants Bayern Munich.

Frank Lampard's side are expected to wrap up the £52million signing of RB Leipzig star Timo Werner in the coming days, and it is hoped the lure of linking up with his Germany teammate will help to persuade Havertz.

But 21-year-old Havertz is a man in demand, having scored five goals since the resumption of the Bundesliga to take his tally to 15 for the season in a ll competitions.

And Real Madrid are ready to join the race to sign the attacking midfielder, according to The Sun.

However, the publication reports that Chelsea have the edge over the La Liga giants, as it is believed Havertz would prefer the chance to test himself in the Premier League.

Meanwhile, the player himself has outlined what will be most important to him when he chooses his next club - the chance to win trophies.

"I think I've picked up enough international experience at Leverkusen," the German international said in an interview with Marca.

"I know the rhythm of these international matches and I'm confident that I can go abroad at any moment and play at clubs outside of Germany.

"For the moment, I want to have a good season. Afterwards, we'll see."

He added: "The team is always the priority, success is collective.

"Then, the individual [trophies] come when you play well. I want to win the biggest trophies during in my career: Champions League, World Cup or Euros. I don't think much about the individual [trophies]."
