Real Madrid have dismissed claims that Thibaut Courtois suffered an anxiety attack at half-time during the game against Club Brugge.
The former Chelsea goalkeeper endured a miserable first-half at the Santiago Bernabeu on Tuesday evening.
Having conceded twice as the Belgian outfit raced into a shock 2-0 lead, Courtois did not reappear for the second half as he was replaced by Alphonse Areola at the break.
The Frenchman went on to make a crucial save with one of his first touches of the game and that provided a platform from which Los Blancos fought back from 2-0 down.
However, there were reports that reason for Courtois' substitution was anxiety-problem related. Something which Madrid strongly deny.
An official statement via the club's website reads: "In relation to certain information about our player Thibaut Courtois, Real Madrid wants to state the following:
"1. That our player has never been diagnosed with an alleged anxiety picture and, therefore, that information is absolutely false.
"2. That Thibaut Courtois has been diagnosed and treated for acute gastroenteritis with dehydration and electrolyte imbalance, which made it impossible to end last Tuesday's game against Bruges.
"3. The player currently responds favorably to the treatment."
Goals from Sergio Ramos and Casemiro spared Zinedine Zidane's blushes in midweek as Madrid now have their first points of the Champions League campaign.
And the Frenchman was encouraged by the fightback.
"It's a bad result, but the reaction was good. I can’t be happy with the first half," Zidane told reporters. "We've never had a 45 minutes like that, but I'll take the reaction.
"At the end of the day I’m not happy with one point – we should have had three – but I’m happy with the reaction. ‘You’ve seen the goal we gave away, it was a bit of a joke.
"It’s not that we started badly but then we didn’t concentrate when the opposition were able to hurt us. When they score first they grow in confidence, we fell away a bit and the second goal happened.
"In the end I’d rather think about the second 45. We can’t be happy, but you need to always think about the positive."
Madrid return to La Liga action this weekend with the visit of second-placed Granada.
