Real Madrid issue Sergio Ramos injury statement ahead of Liverpool clash

Sergio Ramos is set to miss Real Madrid's clash with Liverpool on Tuesday.

The centre-back has a rather storied history with the Reds after the 2018 Champions League final in which he was involved in an unruly action to injure Mohamed Salah after just half an hour before going on to mock Loris Karius and Jurgen Klopp after the game.

The Premier League champions will no doubt be looking to settle scores on the pitch after that 3-1 defeat in Kiev but Ramos, who is captain of the La Liga giants, is a major doubt for both legs with the return game at Anfield set for April 14.

"After the tests carried out today on our captain Sergio Ramos by the Real Madrid Medical Services - he was diagnosed with a muscle injury in the internal twin of his left leg," a statement on Madrid's official website read on Thursday afternoon.

"Pending evolution."

The official statement gave no indication as to when Ramos could return, however Spanish journalist Alfredo Martinez said the 35-year-old would be out for "about a month."

He tweeted: "Sergio Ramos has been injured and will be out for about a month.

"He will not play the tie against Liverpool or the classic R. Madrid-Barcelona on April 9."

The injury was reportedly sustained after the defender came on as a late substitue against Kosovo when Spain were 3-1 up in their World Cup qualifier on Wednesday night.

Ramos' absence will be a huge blow to manager Zinedine Zidane who is already braced for Eden Hazard and Dani Carvajal to miss the clash while also sweating on the fitness of Toni Kroos and Federico Valverde.
