Real Madrid in Rangers change of plan as Gareth Bale and big hitters set for delayed return

Real Madrid could leave many of their big hitters behind for their trip to face Rangers.

A number of Carlo Ancelotti's squad will make a late return from holiday after participation in Euro 2020.

And their South American stars who played in the Copa America will not be back in training until August.

Steven Gerrard 's Premiership champions host Los Blancos this weekend for a glamour friendly on Sunday.

It was reported that new boss Ancelotti would welcome the likes of Luka Modric, Gareth Bale, Raphael Varane, Toni Kroos, Karim Benzema and David Alaba would report for duty at the beginning of this week.

But it's been revealed in Spain that the big hitters will be absent until Friday, just 48 hours before what's now likely to be a shadow squad will take on Rangers.

Madrid faced Rayo Vallecano last weekend in a friendly, but were only able to use seven players from their first team squad.

And Belgian stars Eden Hazard and Thibaut Courtois have both been given additional time off and won't return until next week, while Brazilian stars Eder Militao, Vinicius Junior and Casemiro - who played in the Copa America Final against Argentina - won't report for pre-season training until next month

Madrid's Euro 2020 stars who come back on Friday are more likely to be kept for their next friendly - against AC Milan in the Austrian city of Klagenfurt on August 8 - instead of travelling to Glasgow. Additionally, Madrid may play Bale and Varane anyway, with both players potentially leaving the club.

It means Rangers could face a largely unrecognisable Real Madrid side this weekend.
