Real Madrid have contacted Jose Mourinho over manager job, claims former president

Real Madrid have already approached Jose Mourinho about returning to the club as manager, according to former president Ramon Calderon.

The European champions are expected to sack Santiago Solari by the end of the season at the latest after two home defeats to Barcelona and one to Ajax ended their season all on fronts inside a week.

Standard Sport understands Mourinho is among the candidates to success Solari come the summer, along with Tottenham's Mauricio Pochettino and Juventus' Max Allegri.

But Calderon, who was Real Madrid president for two and a half years a decade ago, says Mourinho has already been approached.

"I have no doubt Mourinho is the first option for the president," he told Sky Sports News. "He's been called in the last weeks.

"It was when Zinedine Zidane left, Mourinho was with Manchester United and he said it was not the right moment to come back, but maybe now he's free.

"I think there will be many chances he will be on that bench next season."

Regarding other candidates, Calderon added: "Maybe Mauricio Pochettino, they are talking about him.

"But there will be many in the next days because fans can't accept this situation.

"There's been three or four months moaning now, lamenting and regretting what we did planning this team."
