Real Madrid handed huge Fede Valverde update ahead of Chelsea Champions League clash

Real Madrid have received another huge boost ahead of their Champions League semi-final second leg with Chelsea.

The two sides are preparing to do battle at Stamford Bridge with the scores locked at 1-1 and the Blues holding a slender advantage thanks to Christian Pulisic's away goal.

Ahead of the second leg, Real Madrid have received mixed injury news with Dani Carvajal and Lucas Vazquez being ruled out for the rest of the season and Raphael Varane also out for the next 10 days.

But Sergio Ramos and Ferland Mendy both trained ahead of Zinedine Zidane's men travelling to London this evening, and Marcelo looks set to be cleared to play.

The experienced full-back was called to serve as a substitute for a Madrid electoral board, being a Spanish citizen, but he has registered his presence and will be cleared to fly this afternoon, or tomorrow at the latest.

And that's not all. Los Blancos were also sweating on the return of versatile midfielder Federico Valverde, who has missed the last five games after contracting coronavirus.

Valverde had to give two separate negative tests and he has now tested negative in his last test, making him available for Zidane ahead of Wednesday night.

That's according to Marca, who say Valverde is now cleared to fly with his teammates to London this evening in what is a huge boost for Real Madrid.

Valverde has made 28 appearances this season across all competitions and has become a vital part of Zidane's plans, though he has had to be something of a utility man at times.

Real Madrid will now have a largely fit squad to call upon other than the aforementioned Varane, Carvajal and Vazquez.

All three are important parts of the Los Blancos squad, but it's a situation Zidane will be delighted with given he was forced to name a squad with just 14 outfield senior players just a couple of weeks ago amid an injury crisis.
