Real Madrid face fresh obstacle in transfer chase for Man Utd's Paul Pogba

Paul Pogba's potential move to Real Madrid could be scuppered by the player's wage demands, according to reports in Spain.

Madrid manager Zinedine Zidane , who returned to the club after the sacking of Santiago Solari in March, is expected to oversee an overhaul of his squad during the summer and is believed to have identified Pogba as an ideal target.

Zidane has previously revealed his admiration for the France international.

And Pogba has fuelled rumours of a move to the Santiago Bernabeu by admitting that playing for the Spanish giants would be a "dream" .

However, AS claim Pogba's wage demands could put any potential transfer in jeopardy, with the United midfielder believed to be earning almost £15 million a year at Old Trafford.

According to the Spanish publication, the Frenchman would move ahead of the likes of Sergio Ramos and Gareth Bale in the list of Madrid's highest earners if the La Liga club were to match that sum.

United's desire to keep the player and Madrid's relationship with agent Mino Raiola are also listed as other potential obstacles.

Zidane is believed to be already planning for next season as the Spanish giants look to put a disappointing campaign behind them.

Los Blancos are expected to finish third in La Liga and suffered a shock exit at the hands of Ajax in the Last 16 of the Champions League - a competition they had won in each of the last three seasons.

Zidane's side are 16 points behind leaders Barcelona and trail local rivals Atletico by seven points, but can reduce the gap against Athletic Bilbao on Sunday.

"Lately they have not lost many games and are playing much better than at the start of the season," Zidane said about their opponents ahead of the game.

"Athletic have always been very difficult to play against, and tomorrow [Sunday] they will make it tough. But it's a good game for us to play well, play better.

"We have six games left to move this forward. We must play better before the season ends, to play well would be good for everyone."
