Real Madrid eye 'dream' Neymar transfer after Barcelona told funding deal is 'impossible'

Real Madrid president Florentino Perez "still dreams" of signing PSG star Neymar after previously missing out on the Brazilian.

Los Blancos chased Neymar back when he was at Santos before losing out to rivals Barcelona.

But the Parisians secured his signature when they lured him from the Nou Camp for a world record £200m.

Ever since he arrived at the Parc des Princes there has been speculation linking him with the exit door.

Madrid were initially thought to be his preferred destination but last summer Barcelona did their utmost to re-sign him and are expected to do so again this year.

Neymar is thought to favour a return to Barcelona, but his former agent former agent Wagner Ribeiro revealed Perez told him signing the Brazilian is still his "dream".

"Neymar wanted Barcelona [when he was at Santos]," Ribeiro told ESPN . "I tried hard to take him to Real Madrid, I brought three of Real Madrid’s directors to Sao Paulo.

"They spent 15 days in my office with Neymar’s father, with Neymar, trying to sign him. But in the end, Neymar followed his heart; he wanted to play for Barcelona.

PSG stood firm last summer as they insisted their prized asset would not be sold.

Neymar earns a mammoth salary in Paris and is unlikely to leave for anything less than PSG signed him for.

Barcelona's finances made funding such a deal difficult which is why they tabled cash-plus-player offers last summer.

But Jaume Roures, president of Mediapro, claims the Catalans cannot finance such a transfer.

He said: “The club no longer has the economic capacity to spend... I don't know how much. It's impossible now.”

Mediapro are the broadcaster who are set to air Ligue 1 from next season.
