Real Madrid defender reacts to failed bid for Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba

Real Madrid defender Dani Carvajal says there is no point in dwelling on his club's failure to sign Paul Pogba during the summer transfer window.

Manchester United midfielder Pogba was the subject of fresh speculation over the summer months after he admitted earlier in the year that he would be open to a new 'challenge' in his playing career.

Real Madrid have long been admirers of the France international with manager Zinedine Zidane eager to link-up with his compatriot at the Spanish club.

The Spanish giants even launched a bid to sign Pogba in the summer, however their offer of James Rodriguez plus £27.6m was swiftly rejected by United, who were under no pressure to sell their star midfielder.

Carvajal admits he was well aware of the rumours linking Pogba with a move to the Spanish capital but he does not what to dwell on what might have been.

"Pogba's name came up a lot," Carvajal told COPE. "The transfer windows closed on different dates (in Spain and England) and in the end he didn't come. We have the players we have and we can't think about someone who isn't here."

Despite their failure to sign Pogba it was still a successful summer for Real Madrid who spent roughly €305 million on new recruits. Amongst those  new signings was Chelsea forward Eden Hazard, and Carvajal thinks the Belgian will be a great assett to the squad.

The Spain international added: "People always talk about revolution. But at a club like Real Madrid, where everyone wants to play and nobody wants to leave, it's not easy.

"Some players have come that will help us, like Hazard, (Eder) Militao, (Ferland) Mendy... and I think they will complement a great squad."
