Real Madrid have confirmed the signing of the teenager Martin Odegaard from Norwegian side Stromsgodset.
Odegaard, who made his international debut for Norway last year aged 15, will be unveiled at a press conference on Thursday after he completes his medical, having agreed personal terms last week. He is believed to have signed a three-and-a-half year deal at the Bernabéu.
“Real Madrid CF and Stromsgodset Fotball have reached an agreement for the transfer of Martin Odegaard,” read a statement on the club’s official website.
“After undergoing a medical exam, the player will hold a press conference with the director of institutional relations, Emilio Butragueño, today 22 January at 1.30pm CET in the Ciudad Real Madrid press room.”
The reigning European champions saw off competition from some of Europe’s biggest clubs to sign the 16-year-old, including Bayern Munich, Arsenal, Barcelona, Liverpool, Manchester United and Manchester City.
Odegaard and his father, Hans Erik, will move to Madrid straight away and the attacking midfielder will begin training with the first team. Hans Erik has been offered a job at Real and his son will play for the B team until the summer.
