Real Madrid chief makes Paul Pogba joke when asked about Man Utd transfer

Real Madrid president Florentino Perez joked that he had never heard of Paul Pogba when he was asked about a potential transfer bid for the Manchester United midfielder.

Pogba was linked with a move to Madrid throughout last summer, and Real boss Zinedine Zidane appears to want the 26-year-old at the Bernabeu.

Speculation over a move for the United ace hasn't died down, despite Pogba having missed most of the campaign through injury.

And the player's agent Mino Raiola has fanned the flames with remarks about United's handling of his client.

But when asked about Pogba after Real beat Atletico Madrid to win the Spanish Super Cup on Sunday, Perez simply smiled and said: "I don't know who Pogba is."

His answer could be seen as a sign that Real are still planning a move for the France international and Perez doesn't want to rock the boat.

United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has consistently said that Pogba remains part of his plans.

But United have been linked with interest in a host of attacking midfielders including Leicester's James Maddison, Aston Villa captain Jack Grealish and Ajax ace Donny van de Beek.

Their top target is Sporting Lisbon skipper Bruno Fernandes, who is believed to be keen to join United if a fee can be agreed between the two clubs.

Sporting want £50million for the Portugal international, with add-ons taking that number to £65m.

Solskjaer remained coy on the subject of transfers on Tuesday as he faced the media ahead of Wednesday night's FA Cup replay against Wolves .

Asked about a potential arrival for Fernandes, the manager said: "I've got no transfer updates. If we get something we can tell you about we will, but we've got no news now."
