Real Madrid chief Florentino Perez has already issued Harry Kane verdict amid Spurs exit links

Real Madrid president Florentino Perez has already given his verdict on Harry Kane amid talk of a Tottenham exit for the England striker.

Reports emerged on Monday night from Sky Sports News that Kane has told Spurs he wants to leave the club and that the north London club are already drawing up a list of replacements.

Football.london understands that is not necessarily the case and that while Kane is frustrated by what has gone on at Tottenham amid a managerial change, no silverware and likely failure to qualify for the Champions League, he has not told the club he wants to leave,

Nevertheless, Kane has never hidden the fact he wants to win some serious silverware in his career, and that means his head could be turned should another big club come in with a large bid.

Valued at more than £100million, though, there are very few clubs who could actually afford Kane this summer, and with Erling Haaland and Romelu Lukaku also appearing as though they are on the market, a transfer may not be straightforward.

But Kane does have admirers in Spain, namely Real Madrid president Perez, who was asked about signing Kane way back in 2017.

Back then, he was coy on the idea, which was no surprise given Karim Benzema was in his prime.

"Signing Harry Kane has not passed through my head. He is a great player and in addition he is young," Perez told COPE.

"He has many years to progress, but we are delighted with [Karim] Benzema and with all of the team.

"I didn’t ask Tottenham’s president for the price because he would have told me that he is worth €250m."

Just over a year later, it was reported by a well-connected Diario AS that Kane was a 'forbidden dream' of Perez's due to the striker's long-term contract at Spurs, but these recent reports have suggested he may not be 'forbidden' after all.

Now, Benzema is just one goal away from having his best-ever goal-scoring season, currently on 29 across all competitions for the season.

But now aged 33, Los Blancos could be forgiven for signing another top - and indeed younger - striker, and they have been linked with both Kylian Mbappe and Erling Haaland.

The issue for Real Madrid if they did want Kane is the finances.

Los Blancos, who have previous in signing Spurs stars across Luka Modric and Gareth Bale, are struggling financially, and unless they can raise funds from investments or significant outgoings ahead of the summer transfer window, it's unlikely they can spend more than £100million on any one player.
