Real Madrid captain Sergio Ramos drops big Erling Haaland transfer hint

Real Madrid centre-back Sergio Ramos has dropped a big hint that the club are more likely to target signing Erling Haaland than Kylian Mbappe.

The two forwards have been described as the natural successors to Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo in recent weeks following their stunning Champions League displays.

And both have been linked with a big-money move to Madrid in the near future.

Speaking an interview with Ibai Llanos on Twitch, Ramos was asked which of the two stars he would prefer his club to swoop for.

And he suggested it would be "easier" for them to pry Haaland from Dortmund than it would Mbappe from PSG.

"Haaland or Mbappe if I were a coach? I would like to have both of them, but a coach does not sign," Ramos said.

"Perhaps, due to the circumstances and the current situation, today I think it would be a little easier to sign Haaland.

"Mbappe is talked about as the Cristiano [Ronaldo] and [Lionel] Messi replacement, and the circumstances are more complicated.

"It would never be bad to reinforce Madrid with a 9 like Haaland, who has something that we do not have: speed, hunger, height ... Mbappé has it too, of course, but it would be much easier today to come to terms with Haaland."

Haaland is believed to have a release clause in his Dortmund deal of around £65m, which becomes active at the end of next season.

Speaking in December his father Alf-Inge refused to rule out a move for his son - but said he is currently enjoying life in Germany.

"Now he is happy at Dortmund, but Erling loves challenges and in football you never know. We will see,” he said.

Haaland will next be in action on Saturday when his side host Hertha Berlin, and he will no doubt be watching on with interest when the Champions League quarter-final draw takes place next Friday.
