Real Madrid bus has window smashed en route to Liverpool Champions League match at Anfield

The Real Madrid team bus had a window smashed en route to Anfield for tonight’s Uefa Champions League quarter-final tie against Liverpool.

Real’s bus was hit by at least one projectile as it made its way to Liverpool’s Anfield stadium, with one window smashed.

Video posted on social media showed the broken glass being cleaned away from a window on the right-hand side of the vehicle outside Anfield. Real have not currently reported any injuries to players or staff members.

Hundreds of fans lined Anfield Road, very few wearing masks or observing social distancing, to greet both teams as they arrived.

When one of Real’s buses parked up at the Kop end of the ground after the team had disembarked it was apparent one pane of a double-glazed window had been smashed and Liverpool staff were seen cleaning up a pile of broken glass on the ground with Merseyside Police officers in attendance.

A Liverpool spokesperson said in a statement: “We condemn unequivocally the actions that led to Real Madrid’s team bus being damaged during its arrival to Anfield this evening.

“It is totally unacceptable and shameful behaviour of a few individuals.

“We sincerely apologise to our visitors for any distress caused.

“We will work together with Merseyside Police to establish the facts and identify those responsible.”

Jurgen Klopp’s Reds head into tonight’s quarter-final second leg trailing 3-1 on aggregate, needing to score at least two goals in normal time to stand a chance of reaching a potential semi-final against Chelsea.
