Real Madrid break silence on Luka Jovic future amid Manchester United transfer links

Real Madrid boss Zinedine Zidane has refused to rule out a possible exit for striker Luka Jovic amid transfer links to Manchester United.

The former Eintracht Frankfurt striker has not quite hit the heights many expected of him at Madrid, struggling with fitness and form, with Karim Benzema very much Zidane's first choice up front.

It has prompted speculation that Jovic could depart, with Roma, AC Milan and Inter Milan all touted for a swoop, while reports in Italy recently claimed that United were considering a loan for the 22-year-old. The same report cited former Paris Saint-Germain striker Edinson Cavani, who is now a free agent, as a possible United target.

Zidane spoke to the Spanish media about Jovic on the eve of his side's La Liga clash with Real Valladolid tonight.

"You have to take everything into account," he said.

"Until the fifth [of October], the market is open. We will see. The players are fine and that's what interests me."

Zidane had previously defended his decision to leave Jovic on the bench for Madrid's league opener against Real Sociedad.

"I didn’t want to change the formation. So, I could have put on another centre-forward by taking one off, but I didn’t want to change the formation," Zidane said after a 0-0 draw Sociedad.

"I’d have had to take [Karim] Benzema off, but he was playing well. By playing two centre-forwards, I would have needed to change the formation yet I wanted to keep two wingers on the wings."

MEN Sport understands Jovic is not a priority target for United, as they look to sign Jadon Sancho. But the club are looking at alternatives.
