Real Madrid announce training return on Monday after coronavirus testing

Real Madrid have announced that they will return to training on Monday after carrying out coronavirus tests on their first-team squad this week.

Los Blancos' players were back at the club's Valdebebas base on Wednesday for Covid-19 examinations and have been given the green light to restart individual training after those tests came back clear.

LaLiga clubs were given permission to resume activities on an individual basis this week after the government lightened lockdown restrictions as part of a four-phase de-escalation plan.

Coach Zinedine Zidane met his players on Wednesday and chatted briefly with each member of his squad, respecting the recommended social distancing measures.

Madrid went into quarantine on March 12 after a member of the club's basketball team, Trey Thompkins, tested positive for coronavirus. The 2019-20 LaLiga season was suspended later that day.

LaLiga president Javier Tebas has said he hopes the competition can resrart in June, although there is currently no official date set for its resumption.

Real are second in LaLiga with 27 rounds played, two points behind fierce rivals Barcelona. The Catalans returned to training on Friday.
