Two men in Ohio have been arrested after breaking into a food pantry freezer and stealing hundreds of pounds of meat that was supposed to go to families who need help. The Union City Police Department caught Juan Anguiano, 32, and Justin Flint, 24, after they broke into the Union City Help Center.
According to Dexerto, police got a call saying someone had broken into the help center’s freezer and stolen a lot of meat. The two men took 315 pounds of hamburger and sausage, two boxes of pies with eight pies in each box, one box with 36 hot dogs, 24 packs of bacon, and 24 loaves of bread. The Union City Help Center has been around since 1986 and gives food to local families who are having a hard time making ends meet.
The crime hits harder than expected because all that stolen food was meant for people who really need it from the food pantry. After police figured out that Anguiano and Flint were the ones who did it, both men said yes, they stole the food. They were arrested and taken to the Randolph County Jail. Now they are facing felony burglary and theft charges. If they are found guilty, they could go to prison for several years.
The police had some fun with the announcement
The Union City Police Department had a little fun when they told everyone about the arrests. They compared the two men to the McDonald’s character who tries to steal hamburgers. On Facebook, the police wrote that they had “successfully captured not one, but two local Hamburglars after a daring (and deeply misguided) freezer break-in at the Union City Help Center.”
The police kept making food jokes in their post. They said that after the men were “grilled by investigators,” they admitted what they did. The police also wrote, “The two were arrested and booked into the Randolph County Jail, where they’ll have plenty of time to chew over their decisions.”

Even though the police made jokes about it, this is actually a big deal for the community. The Union City Help Center gets its food from donations to help local families. Losing all that meat and other food means fewer people will get the help they need. The stolen items would have fed a lot of people who do not have enough food. Looking at other shocking crimes that have happened, it is clear that some people will do terrible things that hurt others.
Police also found out that Flint might have done other bad things too. They think he was involved in breaking into cars in the area, which means he could face even more charges. The police thanked people in the community for helping them find and catch the two men. Just like when a father saved his daughter from a dangerous situation, this shows how important it is when people work together and pay attention to what is going on around them.
In their post, the police said, “Your cooperation and support keep our city safe and ensure that the only hamburgers being stolen around here are from fast-food drive-thrus, legally purchased, of course.”
