Coronavirus Scotland: lowest recorded weekly death toll since lockdown began

A total of 4,119 people have died of confirmed or suspected  coronavirus in Scotland.

The figures, updated by the National Records of Scotland (NRS), show that these deaths have been officially recorded as of June 21.

The weekly statistics account for all deaths registered in Scotland where Covid-19 is mentioned on the death certificate.

Figures are different to those released daily during the Scottish Government’s  press briefing as they account for all suspected and probable cases of the virus in hospitals.

The NRS shows there were 49 deaths related to  coronavirus between registered in week 25, June 15-21, – which is decrease of 20 on last week.

46 per cent of deaths occurred in hospitals.

Around 47 per cent of registered deaths were in care homes.

The number of deaths in care homes fell for a eighth week.

While about seven per cent were at home or other forms of non-institutional  settings.

77 per cent of all  Covid-19   deaths were of people aged 75 or over.

The provisional total number of deaths registered in Scotland in week 25 of 2020 ( June 15-21) was 1,058.

This is an increase of 24 from the number registered in the previous week.
