'Ready for Brexit' Defra briefing to be held in UK seafood cluster

Government officials will travel to the heart of the UK’s seafood cluster next week to deliver a Ready for Brexit briefing.

The Department for Environment, Food & Rural Affairs has partnered with Humber Local Enterprise Partnership to host the Grimsby event, aimed at businesses within the food and drink sector.

It takes place at Humber Seafood Institute on Europarc from 3pm to 5pm on Wednesday, October 16, and will be open to all, with no registration required.

The roadshow events form part of a major push from Whitehall to ensure businesses are prepared, should there be a no-deal at the end of the month.

A spokesperson said: “This free to attend event run by Defra is open to all businesses and will provide them with information on, and signposting to, the support and advice available to help businesses with preparing for Brexit.”

It comes as a special helpdesk hotline has also been established for the Humber.

It offers direct access to a team of professionals who can advise on issues, and is brought forward by Hull and Humber Chamber of Commerce and Humber Local Enterprise Partnership.

Specialists behind the 0330 311 5142 number can advise on World Trade Organization trade terms and compliance; regulations and changes to cross border logistics and movement of goods; business travel to the EU; import and export and EU settlement; revenue and customs compliance.

As with the event, iIt will also offer specific advice to the food and drink, fisheries and agribusiness sectors.
