Reading will be without key defender for Leeds United visit

Reading will be without one of their key defenders for Tuesday night's clash against Leeds United at Madejski Stadium.

The Royals, who have won their last three home games, will have to make do without ever-present right-back Andy Yiadom after he picked up his fifth yellow card of the season in Reading's 1-0 defeat to Brentford at Griffin Park on Saturday afternoon, meaning he will now have to serve a one-match ban, as reported by our sister title Berkshire Live.

Yiadom, who joined the Berkshire club from Barnsley in July 2018, was booked just four minutes into the clash in West London when he caught Brentford left-back Rico Henry with an elbow when attempting to compete for a high ball.

The 27-year-old's absence will be a big blow for Mark Bowen's troops, purely because the Ghana international has been a key fixture for the Royals this season. To date, the right-back has started all 16 of the Royals' Championship matches this season.

With the former Barnsley man sidelined, it is highly likely Reading will have to call upon veteran Chris Gunter to fill the void at right-back.

Gunter, who was named in the match-day squad for the first time this season against Brentford, has not yet made a single appearance for the Royals since the final day of last term.

The former Nottingham Forest man was frozen out by former Reading boss Jose Gomes, but has been drafted back in from the cold by new manager Bowen.

As well as Gunter chomping at the bit to fill in for Yiadom, youngster Teddy Howe is also an option Bowen may wish to consider.

The under-23s defender has already sampled first-team football this season in the Carabao Cup, playing in the second-round win over Plymouth Argyle and the third-round defeat to Premier League Wolverhampton Wanderers.

The Whites' clash with the Royals on Tuesday evening at the Madejski Stadium kicks-off at 8pm, and will see Marcelo Bielsa's side eyeing up a fourth successive league victory.
