Readers think they have solved loud booms heard across Nottinghamshire

Readers believe they have solved the mystery of loud booms which could be heard across Nottinghamshire.

People in Beeston, Carlton, Wilford and the city centre heard loud explosion or firework noises at about 5pm on Monday, December 2.

On Sunday, December 1, residents also reported hearing the same noise at 5pm. One resident described them as 'loud fireworks or explosions.'

The fire service and police have been called but no reports had been made.

Residents have taken to social media to discuss the strange, unexplained noises.

One resident said: "Definitely fireworks. I was at the Victoria bus station at 5.15pm watching them."

Another added: "It is fireworks. Could see them all the way from The Meadows."

"It was a huge firework display just off Mansfield Road," claimed another reader.

It is not know what event in the city required fireworks but video footage has emerged of the display.

One Nottingham Trent University student, Chris King, who took the footage, said: "There were fireworks going off by the Islamic Centre, near the intu Victoria at that time."
