Readers slam 'disgraceful' and 'laughable' Dun Laoghaire co-living proposal

Dublin Live readers have slammed the "disgraceful" and "laughable" proposal to build a co-living facility in Dun Laoghaire.

Barta Capital Property hopes to build the facility on the site of the old schoolhouse on Eblana Avenue in the port town, where each en-suite bedroom would contain a pull-up bed and a kitchenette.

We reported yesterday that local Councillor Ciaran Cuffe was appalled by the “Dickensian” plan and stunned readers quickly made their opinions know, with many likening the project to a prison.

Bartra's proposal has been submitted to An Bord Pleanala as a Strategic Housing Development, meaning it bypasses the local authority, with a decision from the planning authority expected to be made before August.

Bartra also have plans to build similar developments in Tallaght and Blanchardstown, having branded the concept as "Niche Living" on promotional videos on their website.

And Dublin Live understands that if the plans go ahead, residents in the "co-living" development would not be allowed to brings guests into their room.
