Happy new year, readers! Out with the old, and in with the new. Any resolutions? No? Here's one: using your skill and judgment, nominate your favourite songs about a new year and help us assemble a wonderful and illuminating playlist on that subject.
A new year presents opportunities. It's a time for a fresh start, of renewal. Perhaps of optimism … but not necessarily.
Post your suggestions in the comments below and we'll select the best of them for a playlist published next Thursday.

Please do:
* Post your nominations before midday on Tuesday if you wish them to be considered.
* Write a few lines advocating the merits of your choices.
But please don't:
* Post more than one third of the lyrics of any song.
* Dump lists of nominations. If you must post more than two or three at once, please attempt to justify your choices.
