Donald Trump will become the 45th president of the United States. Despite a lack of political experience, a record of racist and sexist behaviour, offensive comments about women and Muslims, and a plan to build a wall along the US-Mexican border Trump swept to an improbable victory.

The Republicans will now retain the House, the Senate, and will almost certainly be able to select a conservative judge for the supreme court.

If you live outside the country, we’d like to hear your thoughts on the result. How do you think it might affect US relations with your country? What are your hopes for the presidency?

You can share your thoughts and hopes for the new president and we’ll use a selection of responses in our coverage.
