Readers heartbroken after baby boy found dead at golf course

Scores of ECHO readers have offered their condolences and expressed heartbreak after a baby boy was found dead at a golf course in Wirral.

On Saturday Merseyside Police tragically confirmed the infant was found at a wooded area next to Brackenwood golf course, on Bracken Lane in Bebington.

Officers were first called to the well-known golf course on Friday afternoon, at about 4.25pm, to reports of an unexplained death.

The force have been there since carrying out investigations and have appealed as a matter of urgency to the baby's mother, in order to check on her welfare.

It is not clear at this stage how the infant died, how long he had been there for or what the cause of death was.

Writing on Facebook, many people offered their thoughts and shock at the awful news.

“A post mortem will take place on Monday to establish how and when he died and how long his body was there before being discovered.

“Extensive enquiries are currently being carried out to trace the mother of the baby to check her welfare and offer any support. I would ask anyone who has any information which could assist us with that to contact us as a matter of urgency.

“I would also ask anyone who has any information which could further assist the investigation to contact us either by calling 101, DM @MerPolCC or anonymously via CrimestoppersUK on 0800 555 111."

It is understood a forensic tent was set up around the 16th fairway of the popular golf course, which is run by Wirral Council.

The local authority said it would not be making a comment at this stage due to the ongoing police investigation.
