For this week’s assignment we’re interested in seeing your photos of ghost signs you have discovered around the world after jantent shared the photo above of one discovered on Williams Street in the town of Yackandandah, Victoria, Australia.
Ghost signs are old hand-painted business signs that have been preserved on buildings for nostalgic appeal. Surviving examples can be found across the world. Oldtymer shared this one below from Edinburgh of a long gone bookbinding business in the city.
Have you discovered a ghost sign locally that tells a story of a bygone era? Maybe it’s the only visual memory of a business that once thrived in your area before falling on harder times? Whether it’s a local one or one you found on your travels, share your images of ghost signs around the world with us by clicking on the blue ‘contribute’ buttons. You can also use the Guardian app, just search for ‘GuardianWitness assignments.’
If you’d like to contribute an idea of your own, you can do so in Send us your assignment ideas.
