The more and more we get glimpses of former Ohio State quarterback Dwayne Haskins, the more and more we come away impressed. Now we have another example of what kind of person the No. 15 pick in the 2019 NFL Draft is by way of a piece he wrote in the Players’ Tribune.
Haskins, writing to his mom, shares stories of his youth and what she meant and still means to him today. And of course, the story was published today — Mother’s Day. I know he probably had some assistance with some aspects of writing such a raw and public piece, but it’s evident that the kid has some writing ability, and a head on his shoulder’s not often seen from someone that may think they’ve arrived.
Also know that it’s a bit of a courageous piece because NFL locker rooms will probably have fun with the sort of article that puts it out there as a self-proclaimed “mama’s boy.” But that should give you even more respect for someone that’s potentially going to be the leader of a team of men. He doesn’t care what everyone thinks, just about doing the right thing.
But we won’t spoil it for you. Take some time to sit down and read through it yourself and gain an appreciation for Tamara Haskins. Better yet, find your mom if she’s still with you and send it to her.
