Reaction to the Freddie Kitchens press conference

During the opening media day for the NFL Combine, Browns fans were able to get another look at Freddie Kitchens and how he plans to run his team. We heard a similar message to his introductory press conference as Kitchens reiterated that he is a people person and he is going to put heavy value on relationships.

With the recent addition of Kareem Hunt, there have been some question marks in regards to the Browns backfield. One of those questions was put to rest today as Kitchens sternly told everyone that Nick Chubb is the team’s primary running back. Chubb has absolutely earned his spot, but this is the NFL and he has to perform to keep his spot.

The Browns have a crowded backfield and if Hunt is cleared to play by the NFL, Cleveland will have a lot of options in terms of play and commodities.

Kitchens also said that he didn’t need a big name or star at the wide receiver position. The rumor mill has been churning out story after story in regards to Cleveland’s interest in New York Giants WR Odell Beckham Jr., but it appears that Kitchens doesn’t need him. Cleveland’s main need is an X receiver. Beckham Jr. is not a natural X and Kitchens has been clear that he doesn’t need a “star” with a personality that’s bigger than the team. There are guys in the draft that Cleveland could look at such as D.K. Metcalf, but Cleveland also has needs on the defensive side of the ball.

Regardless, Kitchens has made it clear he wants team-oriented players and he will focus on building their confidence so they are able to contribute to the group and better the team rather than just the individual.
