Reaction to Nottingham Forest's season being suspended amid coronavirus outbreak

Nottingham Forest boss Sabri Lamouchi says he “commends” the decision to suspend the Championship season due to the coronavirus outbreak. 

Following an emergency meeting on Friday morning, the English Football League agreed no more matches will be played until April 3, at the earliest.

The Reds’ games with Sheffield Wednesday, Huddersfield Town and Bristol City have been postponed and they are due to resume action on April 4 - away to arch-rivals Derby County.

Forest’s owner Evangelos Marinakis announced earlier this week he had tested positive for COVID-19, and Lamouchi says understandable action has now been taken by the authorities.

Season suspended

Nottingham Forest’s next three games have been postponed, as the English Football League announced the season has been suspended.

Due to the coronavirus outbreak, there will be no more EFL matches until April 3, at the earliest.

The EFL board held a meeting this morning and have taken the decision to suspend the campaign until next month, after the international break.

For the Reds, that means Saturday’s trip to Sheffield Wednesday, next Wednesday’s home game with Huddersfield Town and next Sunday’s clash with Bristol City at the City Ground have been postponed.

EFL statement

In addition to Nottingham Forest first-team games, all academy and youth team fixtures have been suspended, following an announcement from the English Football League.

The EFL board held an emergency meeting this morning in response to the coronavirus outbreak and agreed there will be no more matches until April 3, at the earliest.

Another board meeting is scheduled for next week, after which it is said “a further update on these plans” will be given.

The statement from the EFL said: “The FA, Premier League, EFL and Barclays FA Women’s Super League and FA Women’s Championship have collectively agreed to postpone the professional game in England until 3 April at the earliest.

Fans' verdict

Nottingham Forest fans have been reacting to the announcement from the EFL to suspend all matches for the next three weeks due to the coronavirus outbreak.

The Reds were due to face Sheffield Wednesday at Hillsborough on Saturday, but the EFL have taken action to postpone football matches until at least April 3.

The EFL board held a meeting this morning and have taken the decision to suspend the campaign until next month, after the international break.
