
Local residents and others decorate a kazariyama float in Fukuoka on Wednesday ahead of the city's Hakata Gion Yamakasa festival in July. The floats are 10 to 15 meters tall and boast frames decorated with dazzling traditional dolls, model buildings and other objects. Their front and back sides depict scenes from folklore and history. The festival lasts from July 1 to 15, with the floats on display in 14 locations in the city.
