'Reach everyone always with a caring heart': At 17, this Indiana teen turned her childhood health struggles into a mission to help people experiencing homelessness. She raised $6,800 and distributed 100 ‘blessing bags’

At just 17, Natalia Kleinrichert has turned difficult experiences from her childhood into a growing effort to support people experiencing homelessness in Fort Wayne, Indiana. The Bishop Dwenger High School senior founded a grassroots initiative called R.E.A.C.H., using her own experiences with medical challenges as motivation to help others facing difficult circumstances.

In 2025, Kleinrichert raised $6,800 and distributed 100 “blessing bags” filled with practical supplies. Her work continues as she collects food, toiletries and other essentials for people who may not have regular access to basic necessities.

How Natalia Kleinrichert turned personal struggles into action

Kleinrichert's efforts did not begin with a large organisation or a formal nonprofit. Her desire to help others grew from her own experiences dealing with health challenges when she was younger.

Those experiences shaped the way she viewed people going through difficult situations. She eventually created R.E.A.C.H., a grassroots initiative focused on helping people experiencing homelessness.

The name stands for “Reach Everyone Always with a Caring Heart.”

Kleinrichert and her mother, Amy, have organised donation drives and community events to collect supplies and raise money for people in need.

Her efforts also included collecting hundreds of boxes of Girl Scout cookies for The Rescue Mission before she developed R.E.A.C.H. into a continuing community project.

In 2025, Kleinrichert raised $6,800 and distributed 100 blessing bags to people experiencing homelessness in Fort Wayne.

The care packages focused on practical necessities rather than luxury items. Food, toiletries and other everyday essentials can make a meaningful difference for people who don't have stable housing or consistent access to basic supplies.

Her mother has also seen how quickly those donations can be used, highlighting the continuing need within the community.

For Kleinrichert, helping people shouldn't be limited to the holiday season. Her donation drives take place throughout the year, allowing R.E.A.C.H. to provide support when it is needed.

Her community effort continues to grow

Kleinrichert planned another donation drive outside Parkview Field during a Fort Wayne TinCaps game on August 9, encouraging people to donate food, toiletries and other essential supplies.

The donations were intended for M.I.S.F.I.T.S. Ministry, a nonprofit that works directly with Fort Wayne's homeless community.

Rather than simply asking people for money, Kleinrichert encourages them to donate items that can immediately help someone in need.

Natalia Kleinrichert wants young people to make a difference

Kleinrichert's story is ultimately about how a personal experience can become a reason to help others.

Her childhood health struggles gave her a different perspective on hardship, but she chose to turn that experience into action. What started with small acts of giving has grown into R.E.A.C.H., a continuing grassroots effort involving her family and the wider Fort Wayne community.

At 17, Kleinrichert is showing that making a difference doesn't necessarily require a huge organisation or a large budget.

Sometimes, it starts with one caring heart, one donation and one person willing to reach out.
