Re-post-mortem conducted on Dalit youth’s body

A team of doctors led by the All India Institute of Medical Science (AIIMS-Mangalagiri) on Wednesday exhumed the body of Dalit youth, Geddam Srinu, and conducted a re-post-mortem as per the directive of the High Court of Andhra Pradesh.

The re-post-mortem was conducted at Tallapudi village in East Godavari district in the presence of police, revenue officials and the family members of the victim.

In October 2021, the 23-year-old Dalit youth was found dead under suspicious circumstances in a farm field in which he worked. He was a native of Malakapalli village under Tallapudi Mandal in Kovvuru Police Division.

The youth was found to be dead by consuming poison during the post-mortem conducted by the local doctors in October last year, said East Godavari SP Aiswarya Rastogi.

Later,  the victim’s family moved the High Court in the alleged murder case and the court subsequently directed the East Godavari police to conduct the re-post-mortem.

“The body was exhumed on Wednesday and the re-post-mortem exercise has been completed. The body was buried later in the presence of the doctors, revenue officials and the family members”, said Mr. Rastogi. “We are waiting for the directives from the High Court for further investigation,” he added.
