After an over three month absence of Buckeye football, we finally got to see the ‘Shoe in all its glory through the eyes of the annual LifeSports Scarlet and Gray game.
There were plenty of highlights, and we’ve got the best of them all for you in one spot. Here’s some of the best plays from the 2019 Ohio State Spring Game.
Justin Fields bomb to Binjimen Victor
Justin Fields probably didn’t have the day he dreamed of for his first showcase in front of the public, but he did have perhaps the most memorable play — a 98-yard strike to Ben Victor that showed off his arm strength and touch.
Next … Garrett Wilson climbs the ladder
Freshman Garrett Wilson goes up, up and away
There has been plenty of early buzz regarding five-star WR Garrett Wilson who enrolled early at Ohio State as a freshman. The kid is one of the most athletically gifted pass-catchers we’ve seen in Columbus in quite some time, and he didn’t disappoint on this 50/50 ball from quarterback Matthew Baldwin.
Next … Riep with the thief
Amir Riep tip and pick
And how about this play from defensive back Amir Riep? A tip and interception that showed that he could push for some playing time in the fall. It’s only spring, but this type of athleticism and playmaking in a game-like situation tends to turn the coaches heads.
Next … Hill adjusts on the fly
K.J. Hill defensive back, or wide-receiver?
Upcoming senior wide-receiver K.J. Hill should be the leader of a wide-receiver room that still has plenty of arrows in the quiver and he showed his ability to adjust to the ball in the air on an under-thrown pass from quarterback Matthew Baldwin.
Next … Teague shows off the speed and power
Jack of all trades and Master of run
And how about this run to pay-dirt by backup running back Master Teague? We only got to see the sophomore-to-be in mop up duty last year, but he could be a bigger part of things in 2019. You can almost feel the momentum and force he has while running, and he even looks a step or two faster than last year.
Next … Fields shows the legs
Fields with the Q-read TD
And lastly — get used to this type of run from Justin Fields. Three will be more Q-runs in the package if the Georgia transfer wins the starting job. He’s got size and uncanny speed for a quarterback his size. Here he outraces opposing defenses to the corner of the end zone with little to no resistance.
Let the countdown begin now in earnest for the start of fall camp. We got a taste of Ohio State football with the Spring Game and it’s just enough to leave you with wanting more.
