RBSO to stage 'Melody For The Queen'

The Royal Bangkok Symphony Orchestra under the Royal Patronage of HRH Princess Sirivannavari Nariratana Rajakanya presents "Melody For The Queen", an evening of orchestral brilliance and virtuosic piano performance in the Main Hall of Thailand Cultural Centre, Ratchadaphisek Road, on July 3 at 7.30pm.

Conducted by maestro Vanich Potavanich, one of Thailand's most respected conductors and a longstanding figure in the country's classical music scene, the concert celebrates the rich musical heritage of Hungary through works by Franz Liszt and Zoltán Kodály.

The evening brings together two of Liszt's most celebrated works -- the dazzling Hungarian Rhapsody No.2 and the lyrical yet technically demanding Piano Concerto No.2 In A Major.

Completing the programme is Kodály's colourful Háry János Suite, a vibrant orchestral work inspired by Hungarian folk traditions and the adventures of a legendary soldier-storyteller.

Together, these works showcase the passion, virtuosity and national character that define Hungary's musical legacy.

Appearing as soloist on the night will be Phu Koanantakool, one of the country's most distinguished pianists, who has studied in Thailand, Austria, Switzerland and Poland and has further established an international career with performances across the European and Asian continents.

Widely recognised for his dedication to the music of Franz Liszt, Phu became the first Thai pianist to perform the complete Études D'exécution Transcendante in 2022. He is also the founder and artistic director of the Thailand International Piano Festival and, in 2026, became the first Thai recipient of Hungary's prestigious Pro Cultura Hungarica Award for his contributions to promoting the music of Liszt.

Tickets cost 800, 1,000, 1,500, 2,000 and 2,500 baht and can be purchased from thaiticketmajor.com.
