It's that time of the year again when the Royal Bangkok Symphony Orchestra brings the winners of its Search For Talent Vocal Competition to perform in the Small Hall at Thailand Cultural Centre, Ratchadaphisek Road, on Friday, at 8pm.
Ranging in ages from 8-16, the eight winners of the third edition of the talent competition have already performed in front of the public, at RBSO's Concert in the Park at Chula Centenary Park earlier this year.
The young talents have garnered various accolades and performed in many vocal competitions from Rome in Italy to the legendary Carnegie Hall in New York. They have also performed in operas, musicals and television programmes. Some attend the most prestigious pre-college music programmes in the country.
For the upcoming show, titled "RBSO Young Talent Sings Broadway", they will perform well-known solo selections from classic Broadway shows, including What I Did For Love (A Chorus Line), Don't Rain On My Parade (Funny Girl), Popular (Wicked), Empty Chairs At Empty Tables (Les Misérables), Now That I've Seen Her (Miss Saigon), I Can Hear The Bells (Hairspray), Breathe (In the Heights) and Memory (Cats). As ensembles, they will also perform selections from Rent (Season Of Love) and Chitty Chitty Bang Bang.
Appearing as guest vocalist will be Sathida "Nan" Prompiriya, who won five gold medals at the 2011 World Championships of Performing Arts (WCOPA) in the US, and has appeared in leading roles in several Thai-language musicals such as Hom Rong The Musical, Pleang Rak Sam Rdu and The Tale Of Hinghoy. She will be singing Wishing You Were Somehow Here Again (Phantom Of The Opera) and I Have Confidence (The Sound Of Music).
Asst Prof Dr Nora-ath Chanklum will return as conductor. He is currently resident of the CU Symphony Orchestra and CU Strings Orchestra and also an instructor at the Department of Music, Faculty of Fine and Applied Arts, Chulalongkorn University.
He has recently been a recipient of the Silapathorn Award, which honours living Thai contemporary artists. It was presented by the Office of Contemporary Art and Culture, Ministry of Culture.
Tickets cost 300, 500 and 800 baht and are available from Thai Ticket Major outlets (visit thaiticketmajor.com).
