The Royal Bangkok Symphony Orchestra presents "Royal Benevolence", a gala concert celebrating the auspicious birthday anniversary of HM the King, in the Main Hall of Thailand Cultural Centre, Ratchadaphisek Road, on July 31 at 7.30pm.
Held in collaboration with the Department of Cultural Promotion, Ministry of Culture, the concert welcomes back acclaimed Russian conductor Ivan Nikiforchin and celebrated flautist Sofia Viland, whose previous appearances with the orchestra were warmly received by Bangkok audiences.
Nikiforchin has rapidly established himself among the most exciting young conductors of his generation, admired for his energetic interpretations and refined musical insight.
Joining him will be Viland, whose luminous tone, technical brilliance and expressive artistry have earned international recognition, highlighted by her gold medal at the International Tchaikovsky Competition.
The evening opens with Mendelssohn's enchanting Overture to A Midsummer Night's Dream, a youthful masterpiece inspired by Shakespeare's beloved comedy. Viland will then perform the composer's celebrated Violin Concerto In E Minor in a rare arrangement for flute and orchestra, revealing fresh colours and lyrical beauty in one of the Romantic repertoire's best-loved concertos.
The concert concludes with Rimsky-Korsakov's dazzling Scheherazade, inspired by One Thousand And One Nights. Renowned for its sumptuous orchestration and vivid musical storytelling, the work remains one of the most spectacular showpieces in the symphonic repertoire.
