The Royal Bangkok Symphony Orchestra will explore varied aspects of musical Romanticism during the "Romantic Variations" concert in the Main Hall of the Thailand Cultural Centre, Ratchadaphisek Road, tomorrow at 8pm.

Fanny Clamagirand. Royal Bangkok Symphony Ochestra

This is the first major concert of the RBSO 2019 season and will open with Tchaikovsky's turbulent and passionate Romeo And Juliet Overture and finish with Elgar's groundbreaking Enigma Variations Op 36.

They will be performed under the baton of Michel Tilkin.

Joining the orchestra will be award-winning French violin soloist Fanny Clamagirand, who will perform a repertoire of perhaps the finest of all violin concertos from her own country, Violin Concerto No.3 In B Minor Op 61 by Saint-Saëns.

Clamagirand has firmly established herself as an artist of great distinction on the international stage and is considered one of the finest violinists of her generation. The elegance and brightness of her playing and interpretations have received much praise from critics.

After a successful career as a soloist and orchestral musician with the Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra, Tilkin moved into conducting. In March 2018 he was appointed the new music director of the RBSO, already receiving much acclaim and admiration during his first year in this role. He is also a regular guest conductor with orchestras in Belgium, the Netherlands and Germany.
