RBS accused of writing fake reviews of its new app Bo - months before it launched

Last month RBS launched a new digital banking app called Bo, in a bid to take on rivals including Monzo and Revolut.

While the app officially launched on November 27, several five-star reviews were left on the App Store ahead of this date, sparking concerns that they’re fake.

One review left on October 25 reads: “Great app for helping to keep track of your spending with real time notifications so you know exactly how much money you have in your account at any time.

“There’s a handy savings pot feature that helps me create realistic spending budgets and save money each month too.

“I love the design of the app, it’s really clean and easy to use. And you can’t not love the bright yellow card!”

However, according to The Telegraph , three recent review on the App Store accuse RBS of writing these early review.

While these reviews appear to have been deleted, The Telegraph says that one reviewer wrote: “Was keen to test this out but concerned by the mass of five-star reviews parroting the marketing materials.”

And one eagle-eyed user noted that another five-star review was written by an account which has the same name as an RBS employee.

However, RBS claims that the reviews are legitimate, and were written by one of the 2,800 people who signed up to Bo as part of a pilot scheme.

Speaking to Mirror Online, an RBS spokesperson said: “More than 2,800 people signed up to Bó as part of its pilot phase, which included staff from across the bank.

"Feedback from these customers shows Bó has helped testers take control of their spending – which is why we built it.

"We test our products, including with staff, before they are available to our customers and use feedback from pilots to improve the services and products we offer.”
