(Reuters) - Reserve Bank of New Zealand assistant governor Christian Hawkesby said on Tuesday the bank's surprise 50 basis point cut in August would lift inflation.

"We felt this commitment (to providing monetary policy stimulus) should support a lift in inflation expectations and an eventual lift in actual inflation," he said in a speech to a markets conference in Sydney.
